Now working: GMail Notifier Release v0.9
Hi everybody,
to be true, I were extremely astonished by the enormous success of the GMail Notifier. It seems like many people use this in their Ubuntu Box, which is of course always nice to hear!
And because of this, there is this new release announcement (in English!) of version 0.9 which includes many, many new features, although the number increased only a little bit. Under the hood it’s an almost complete rewrite, featuring a completely new backend, which now builds on IMAP4. Thus, we have many new and improved features:
- Support for Labels and Mailboxes: Choose which folder you want to have checked
- An improved Google Apps support (clicking on the applet opens the correct location)
- No restrictions if you check your mails via POP3 anymore
- A completely new configuration interface
- Last but not least: It’s fully translated into 8 languages
That sounds good? We now have a .deb Package available, just check out the Homepage at https//launchpad.net/gm-notify . On this site you also can report bugs (if you do so, it’s very probable, that they get fixed
) or help with the translation.
Below are some screenshots of the new configuration interface. And if you like it, or don’t, please don’t hesitate to leave a comment
Update2: This major issue has been fixed, packages have been updated… So have a lot of fun with the now working release 0.9

Is this still being maintained? Will packages be available for karmic? If so, you may want to let your users know by posting an update to http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1136699&page=16 and add news/announcement on the launchpad page.
unfortunately I have not much time at the moment – but I’ll try to make a rework for karmic maybe including the proposal of using jabber for notification…
Hi, thank you for you app. I think it would be even better if you use gtalk (jabber) connection method. This way you don’t have to periodically check for new mails, google will automatically inform you.
Bye!
ooh, that’s a good point – thanks for this information!
Great piece of software! Why isn’t this wonderful program part of standard gnome repositories? It’s far better than the stuff which came with my Ubuntu packages… Weiter so!!
Looks awesome! can’t wait to update when I get home
keep up the good work
Everybody I know who has installed this program loves it! However, when I tried installing it on my own computer, it informs me that my credentials are invalid, even though I use them to log into gmail all the time. Am I doing something wrong?
Thanks again for the cool program!
yeah, there seem to be some issues with this currently – I’ll update the article, thanks for the comment, though
